After looking at high end quadcopter, I was thinking to get one probably to be involved in photography field because it looks like very entertaining. Nevertheless I can't straight away spend my cash on something that is really expensive for me. There are so many advices from experts saying that you have to get an amateur quadcopter first before spending at the high end one. For me, you have to buy the cheap one before your thousand of Ringgit blown away just like that. Here, we will discuss most of budget quadcopters which currently available in Malaysia market. Btw, you have to search and compare the prices via lelong, lazada, mudah etc to get the actual price. One more thing, I would like to just focus on outdoor quadcopter only because you can get the indoor quad as low as RM70.00 in market.
Actually, the differences between the outdoor and indoor quad is not just the size (outdoor size is bigger that indoor). It is also different in term of its control-ability. The bigger the size, the more stable it is. Actually, the stability of the flying machine is depending on its shape and greatly influenced by its weight. Extra weight will give your quad more resistance to wind but you would need extra capacity of battery. I did some research about magnitude of wind that is suitable for flying. Normally, in US, the professional aerial photographer is depending on weather and wind strength forecast to do their job. Of course that you won't place your stuff in a high risk condition otherwise it will be blown off by the strong wind. But, for us as amateur player and just for hobby, it's better to concentrate on a budget quad only at this time being.
When talk about budget, of course it is low end product. You can't expect it is equipped with all of sophisticated parts such FHD camera, GPS function, FPV, more than 10 min flying time, more that 200m flying range and so on. The quad might equipped with one of them only which will depend on the model and brand. One more thing, please don't expect that the machine is fabricated in Europe or US continents. Most of the quad are from China, design and build 100% by Chinese. Please do not think that Chinese 's product is out of quality. Nowadays, everything is from China. They currently is the main supplier of goods to the whole world. Without them, all of prices definitely would increase. Even my genuine PS4 is made in China. BTW, below is the lists that I could come with.
1.
Syma X5C (estimated RM180.00)
If you go to toy store finding a quad, definitely there will be offering you this. Syma is very well know brand for RC flying machine. Even they are Chinese's company, but the whole world is talking about them. Probably their quad is cheaper than others and it is equipped with 2MP camera. The camera can do recording but believe me the quality is very poor. With 2MP camera, taking photo would be more suitable I think. The flying time would be up to 7min and is supplied by
3.7V 500mAh Li-poly battery. For me, the biggest drawback of this RC is its flying range. Please don't trust the picture which it have flied very high. It only can be control up to 50m only. So, it you want to take photos from above, you would need to go farther than that.
2. WLtoys Galaxy V353 (estimated RM 230.00)
Oh my god, I like this quad very much. WLtoys is one of the good brand name of quadcopter. The V303 as mentioned in last posts indicated that there are willing to invest in manufacturing a beast machine competing with DJI Phanton II. But, V353 is not bad also.
With its price tag is more competitive than X5C, it posses something that is lacking in X5C. Equipped with 7.4V 850mAh, the RC can fly up to 130m, making it very worth to be bought. But, there is one little tiny problem for this quad. With its price tag it is absence of camera. Well, for me it kinda missing out of very a important part. If you want camera, you have to buy separately for about USD 45.00 including shipping. I couldn't find the camera selling here in Malaysia in internet. Maybe you can get the part from toy store.
3. DFD F183
This is very good alternative than Syma and WLtoys. DFD is not a big name in RC world but they are willing to compete with others. This RC has more like the same spec with the V353 plus 2MP camera. With its price tag of RM250.00 ++ , it would be a very nice buys. I personally would choose F183 for my first quad. Based on review, I can say that not bad to give a try.
Well, these three machine are currently available in Malaysia. Grab it and feel the excitement. The list here is not complete. I personally don't like the quadcopter like this.
Maybe because it looks like very ugly and more like a toy. If you don't care, there are a lot of choices then. However, you can take off the blade protector if you want. What are the important characteristic that you might know about the RC before buying are the flying time, flying range, its camera and of course the most important thing is its available spare parts.
Next time, I'll be writing about Cheerson CX-30W which has First Person View (FPV) function which can be shown in your smartphone while flying. Thank you....
